A warehouse management consultant who starts on the floor.

From the office, a struggling warehouse looks like a system problem. From the floor it looks like a process problem. Usually it is both, and the fix sits where they meet: how goods are received, put away, picked, packed and loaded, and the SAP EWM configuration that has to run all of it. Luminar works in that gap, with senior consultants on your floor and no software or licences to sell.

The role

Make the floor and the system agree.

SAP EWM only · senior consultants · on site

What the job is. A warehouse management consultant is brought in when the way a warehouse runs and the way its system thinks it runs have drifted apart, or are about to be designed for the first time. The work is part operations and part configuration: watching a shift, mapping where stock and labour actually go, then shaping the warehouse management system around that rather than around a vendor's demo.

Where we draw the line. We work only on SAP Extended Warehouse Management. If your warehouse runs on SAP ERP or S/4HANA, or is about to, we are the right call. If it runs on something else, we will tell you, and where we can, who to call instead.

What we do

  • Walk the floor and write down how it really runs, before anyone opens a configuration screen
  • Shape the project before delivery: scope, integrator choice, the RFP and its quality gates
  • Sit beside the DC design team as the execution voice on docks, pick faces, staging and RF coverage
  • Design, deliver and rescue SAP EWM rollouts, with a senior consultant on the floor through hypercare

What we do not do

We are not racking engineers or architects, and we do not replace them. We do not take on non-EWM SAP modules, lead multi-vendor programme management, deliver from offshore, or staff junior consultants on your floor.

02  The signsWhen to bring someone in

Signs the warehouse has outgrown its system.

None of these is a software fault on its own. Together they usually mean the floor and the system have stopped describing the same warehouse, and the gap gets paid for in labour every shift. One day on your floor and we will tell you which position you are in, and what it would take.

  • Stock reconciliation takes weeks, and never quite reconciles
  • Supervisors run the shift from spreadsheets the system never sees
  • Pickers walk past the right stock to reach the bin the system chose
  • A new site is on the drawing board and nobody has asked how it will be picked
  • Classic SAP WM is still running and its support dates are close or already past

Q01

What does a warehouse management consultant actually do?

Finds where the warehouse and its system disagree, and closes the gap. In practice that means time on the floor with supervisors and operators, a map of how receiving, putaway, picking, packing and loading really run, and then the scope, process design and configuration decisions that follow from it. For a new site the same work happens on a drawing, before the slab is poured.

Q02

Do you design warehouse layouts?

Not as the racking engineer or architect, and we do not replace them. We sit beside the distribution centre design team as the warehouse execution voice, making sure the dock doors, staging lanes, pick faces, printer and charging points, RF coverage and any automation match how the site will actually run in SAP EWM, while those decisions are still on a drawing and cheap to change.

Q03

Do you only work with SAP?

Yes. SAP Extended Warehouse Management is all we do, and we do not take on other SAP modules. If your warehouse is not on SAP and is not heading there, we will tell you honestly, and point you to someone better placed where we can.

Q04

Do you sell software or licences?

No. We sell no SAP licences and no software, so the advice on what to buy comes from the floor. That includes whether you need advanced EWM at all, because basic warehouse management already sits in the S/4HANA core.

Q05

Who does the work?

Senior consultants only. We do not staff junior consultants on your warehouse floor and we do not deliver from offshore. A senior consultant stays on the floor through go-live and hypercare.

Q06

How do we choose an integrator?

Interview them about the floor, not the slide deck. Ask who will actually be on site, what they would leave standard, and how they handle a cutover that slips. We have written the questions down, and we can run the integrator scan with you.

Q07

How does an engagement start, and what does it cost?

Usually with the Floor Audit: one day on your floor with a senior consultant, and a plain-language findings memo inside five working days. It is complimentary and has no proposal attached. What comes after depends on the position you are in. For the project itself, we have set out where the money actually goes.

Q08

Where do you work?

Across Australia and APAC, on site and in your time zone. That includes global programmes whose template is landing on an Australian or APAC floor, where the local view is usually the one missing.
